Usually, the
underwriter's surveyor limits his attention to specific damages reported to
underwriters, examining only damage pointed out by the surveyor of the assured.
1. He
is responsible for such as follows except when otherwise instructed by his principals:
2. Obtaining
from underwriters or insurance brokers, particulars of damage to be surveyed,
records of temporary and deferred repairs and particulars of outstanding
damages.
3. Attending
surveys of damage jointly with surveyors of the assured and repair contractors,
as applicable, at date, time, and location specified by the assured.
4. Determining
and agreeing as practicable, the cause, nature and extent of damage pointed out
by the surveyor of the assured, as well as recommendations for repairs and
reasonable costs applicable.
5. Determining
and agreeing as practicable, to breakdown of all costs related to claim
adjustment.
6. Determining
and agreeing as practicable, cost of any bonus overtime worked, together with
savings, if any, in time and cost due to overtime worked. Attending jointly
with surveyors of the assured and representatives of repair contractors to
negotiate and agree as practicable, to costs applicable to damage repairs,
except when otherwise instructed.
7. Advise
the assured’s surveyor at time of survey of any exceptions taken to cause
extent of damage, necessary repairs or repair cost and make concerted efforts
to reach agreements concerning matters in dispute. A dim view is taken to submitting
a report reflecting an exception which has not been first discussed with the
assured’s surveyor at time of the initial survey.
8. Attending
and reporting upon any additional damage disclosed during repairs which may be
pointed out by the assured's surveyor during supplementary surveys.
